Complexity and Strategic Disruption - Last Module for 2022 EMBA Cohort!

We are closing up on the final module for our 2022 student cohort. Complexity and Strategic Disruption is where they will be exploring how the convergence of technology and globalisation are changing value creation, strategy, economics, and how you can identify and capture opportunities. This subject will then be considered in how it impacts wider societies. Whilst humankind is deeply connected and has access to large sets of information, the pandemic is but one example of systemic feedback loops creating new levels of complexity for all. This module is taught by Dr. Andrew Taylor and Raluca Bochiș between 8th and 11th of June.

Why study this module during the Executive MBA programme?

The pandemic, the internet, and advances in information and communications are implicated in the emergence of the network economy and the network society. Greater connectivity and access to increased variety and volume of information enable new and complex forms of organisation embodying distributed network structures and processes and give rise to a complex competitive landscape. This presents opportunities and threats that are challenging both public and private sector institutions. The purpose of this module is to equip students to understand the emerging context and to harness network forms of organisation to deliver transformational capacity or stability as appropriate in the face of environmental turbulence.

The module maps out how the convergence of technology and globalisation has changed value creation, how this has affected strategy, and the wider social and environmental consequences of an emerging networked world. Through the theories and examples provided by Andrew and Raluca, students will develop their capacity for conceptualisation so that they are able to decide for themselves what they can take from competing theories to deal with complex situations for which no single  “best practice” recipe exists, and where imitation from examples is not a viable option.

"It is a great pleasure to be delivering this module since it addresses the fundamental challenges, of rising complexity and consequent disruption, facing businesses. Digital disruption has been challenging traditional models of strategy and economics for some time now, but the pandemic, subsequent supply chain crises and the spectre of war are forcing executives to reconsider previously robust business models and think about resilience. The module is designed to enable students to more effectively lead in complex times and provide the tools to enable us all to flourish in the future" - declared Dr. Andrew Taylor

"I am delighted to co-facilitate the Complexity & Strategic DIsruption Module as the topic is not just of critical importance in the more-than-ever changing business landscape, but also frankly,  intellectually stimulating. Acquiring the complexity lens is deeply rewarding as it promotes a shift in conceptualizing organizational learning and effectiveness and provides hands-on tools for management practice to make room for experimentation and emergence, develop resilience, and build adaptive systems.
