This module will provide a unique experience for the EMBA students. Besides the broad experience offered by the two lecturers, we will be hosted for this module by Emerson Cluj, a leading global technology, software, and engineering company providing innovative solutions for customers in industrial and commercial markets. Their supply chain experts team will guide us through the campus offering students a critical understanding of key operational and supply chain objectives and how they are created within a real business environment. Furthermore, they will be able to practice critical analysis of the role of operations management and its strategic contribution to organisational success.
WHO IS TEACHING THE MODULE
Every module brings to Cluj various lecturers from all over the world. This time, we invite you to meet Christopher Gleadle. Check out the interview below to better understand his background, discover how he is related to Operations and Supply Chain Management, and why we invited him to teach for this Executive MBA programme validated by Buckingham University.
Christopher Gleadle has extensive experience in diverse areas such as international trade, finance, IT, energy, and more. He has helped shape environmental standards, contributing to The Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product Life Cycle, Scope 3 Technical Guidance, and others (Scopes 1, 2, 3). In addition to his written work, he has served as a keynote speaker and adviser to organisations such as the ASEIC working group on SMEs and appeared at many conferences worldwide further solidifying his standing as a respected professional in the field. Using a unified systems approach, he simplifies complex problems and integrates technologies. Starting in programming, his consultancy creates tools for analysis and improvement in various sectors. Christopher emphasizes understanding the interaction of different factors to make better decisions. His work focuses on waste reduction and enhancing performance. He is the creator of The Sphere Economy.
TEE: Chris, please describe your professional experience in a few words.
Chris: My experience spans a wide array of topics such as international trade, financial services, production consumption, IT, agriculture, energy, water, waste, transport, enterprise risk management, infrastructure, shipping, air and so on…
TEE: What inspires you?
Chris: The enthusiasm of students who make connections between things they did not account for before. Then watching them navigate a future for themselves and others with that new knowledge and flourish with it.
TEE: What research projects do you have right now?
Chris: I'm working on several books and journals talking about different topics from artificial intelligence, inclusive health systems, to integrated international trade and so on. Also, rolling out our range of education and advisory services for businesses, non-profits, and governments.
TEE: Why should we read your latest book, The Five Essential Steps To Sustainable Viability?
Chris: Without viability, sustainability doesn’t make sense. Profitability supports much that is important to us all – health, well-being, a rich environment, and a safe and secure future. How the profit is made creates the advantage and resilience. Consequently, it introduces a unified approach of established systems thinking methods. Five Steps helps managers think about their habits more broadly. Not as a collection of tactics but a whole way of viewing and managing the organisation. As a result, improve individual and collective performance.
TEE: In your opinion, which is the biggest supply chain challenge we need to find solutions for as soon as possible?
Chris: To broaden the boundary of decision-making to account for how supply chains interact. As a result, reduce waste and realise opportunities currently lost. This too can serve as a catalyst to stimulate political and institutional configurations that ignite innovation to do more with what we have. Action today will shape the hope of the many for decades to come. Target failure is not an option.
Our guest lecturer for this module is Bogdan Sterescu, Operations Director Europe at Pressure Management, Emerson and alumnus of the Executive MBA programme at Hull University. Bogdan is a results oriented, proven leader with strong analytical, problem solving and business development skills. He has technical, operational and organizational development experience in the automotive and oil and gas industries. He has been involved in the Roxar operations strategy development where he defined the requirements for and led the LEAN layout of new Roxar buildings. In addition, he recruited, hired and managed Roxar’s operations organization in Cluj, Romania, an engineer-to-order project business, growing sales from $0 to $53M in less than three years.
