Horia Ciorcila is one of the most well-known businessmen in Romania. However, discretion is part of his DNA, because he lets the facts and the companies he has built from scratch do the talking. He also believes that it is vital to be surrounded by people who put their soul in what they do, in order to have a team that makes a difference.
The advice he would like to give young people currently studying and entrepreneurs at the beginning of the road refers to education, character and professionalism. This is precisely because in business you need all of these to succeed. He believes that it is extremely important that they constantly acquire knowledge, based on the principle: “Never stop learning”. Another aspect that he considers essential, a condition to succeed, is loyalty to an idea, to the team you are a part of, to the people who are close to you. He completed his studies in Cluj, at the Polytechnic Institute, being a graduate of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Science. He was not yet 30 years old when he founded in Cluj two of the businesses that later became top companies in Romania: Banca Transilvania and Storm-Astral, specialized in cable television.
These were followed by other entrepreneurial projects in various areas, which played a well-defined role in his career, due to the exciting life and business experience they offered. He often says that the story of Banca Transilvania has a special charm. Much in the same way as the history of many great American companies started in a garage, BT’s beginnings fell in a similar category: in a house belonging to the company Compexit, on the banks of the Somes River, in Cluj, with a team of 13 people.
Today, BT is one of the 3 largest banks in Romania and, moreover, the largest banking institution with majority private Romanian capital, with over 6,000 team members and nearly 2 million clients. Horia Ciorcila was, from the very beginning, a Member of Banca Transilvania’s Board of Directors and, since 2002, he is the Chairman of the Board. Horia Ciorcila is involved, either directly or indirectly, in various humanitarian causes and CSR projects.
On a personal level, to encourage sports, he founded and still invests in Winners Tennis Club, opened in Cluj. As a result of the tournaments organized annually, to the tennis school, but also to the large number of children who have started to play tennis at Winners – and who fell in love with the sport, some even becoming champions – he has succeeded in putting Cluj on the map of European tennis.
Omer Tetik is one of the youngest CEOs in the Romanian banking sector, being a part of Banca Transilvania’s team since June 2013. He is characterized by the win-win approach, determination, and the joy of working with people.
Having an 18-year experience in the banking field, except for Romania, he has also worked in Turkey and Russia. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics – Middle East Technical University of Ankara. His origins are Turkish, he was born in Germany, but for the past 14 years he has been living in Romania and lately in Cluj.
Teofil Muresan has an extensive entrepreneurial experience in founding and developing cross-sector businesses in energy and telecommunication, with a total turnover exceeding €100m. He has a PhD in power engineering and he is alumni of the prestigious London Business School (Sloan Master). Through his companies, he finances strategic programs aimed at developing the Romanian society, with a special focus on education.
Teofil Muresan entered into entrepreneurship in 1997, after a relevant technical experience in the energy field, as a Dispatcher at the National Grid Control Centre and Associate Professor at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. Initially, Electrogrup provided consultancy services in power infrastructure and later expanded in the area of telecommunications, developing the innovative cross-sector concept. This strategy exploits the connection between domains and allowed the company to optimize resources, costs and thus to differentiate itself in the market. Founded in 2007, Direct One, a company that owns and operates one of the largest intercity fiber optic networks in Romania using OPGW technology. In 2008, the company launched the first Video on Demand and Live TV platform in Romania (today, seenow.ro). Today, Electrogrup enters foreign markets, activating within a Group of Companies born as a result of M&A processes. With a PhD in electrical engineering and the experience of a Master in Strategy and Leadership at the prestigious London Business School, Teofil Muresan promotes the importance of collaboration between the academic and business environment in creating an educational offer that fosters performance.
